Leschi Park Residence
A study in utilizing existing site geometry and topography to maximize views on a tight lot in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood, resulting in a dynamic urban architecture.
Seattle, WA
The Leschi Park Residence is set on a steeply-sloped urban lot with channeled views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains to the north-east and Mt. Ranier to the south-east. The site is entered from an alley to the south and fronts Leschi Park to the north. The building is oriented to take advantage of the views and to enliven the interior spaces. One moves through the site via a meandering stair that runs from the alley to a courtyard bordering the park. A switch-back stair connects all four levels on the interior. An exterior deck cantilevers over the courtyard, providing a perch to contemplate the views. All building forms are topped with green roofs. Predominant materials include concrete, Corten steel, plantation-grade wood, and woven wire mesh.
